A raunchy retelling of the old folk tale – 1001 Arabian Nights. I loved the original story and studied it story years ago for drama so was interested to see what would be made of this one.

The Good Stuff

I wasn’t sure what I’d think of this story when I began listening to it. But I was happy to find that the stories had been redone by Meols perfectly. It wasn’t the exact same story, Melos had mixed them up by tweaking one or two and then completely making others her own. However, she kept the initial story of Scheherazade and the Sultan very similar, which I think was a very good touch.

The choice of Sierra Kline as the narrator was perfect. She has a lovely sultry voice that really works with the stories.

Not My Cup Of Tea

Some points I did find a little hard because bits of the story weren’t very paced, so after one raunchy scene, there was another a few minutes after.

I lost count of the times in each story that the word ‘wanton’ was mentioned too. It became a mental game.

Overall Rating

It was very well written, it took a nice twist on the classic tale without ruining it.
I did enjoy it.

Daddy Darkest – Ellery Kane

daddydarkest

Thank you to Ellery Kane for giving me a copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Daddy Darkest is the first book in the Doctors of Darkness Series. It begins with Sam, a young girl who is traveling with her best friend and finds herself lost when her friend goes missing at the airport. From there we go between past and present, present focusing on Sam and her new found acquaintance; suspended policeman Levi, and the past focusing on Sam’s mother and his job as a psychologist in a prison.

The Good Stuff

The storyline was really interesting. I liked following Sam and Levi as they looked for Ginnie. The flashbacks of Sam’s mother Claire was also very interesting as it was a completely different insight into criminal minds.

The characters were quite complex. They were quite realistic characters, none of them were perfect or completely likable, which helped the story be much more realistic.

Claire’s backstory of the sexual abuse was really interesting, especially when seeing how it affected her adult life.

Not My Cup Of Tea

This was a really great and interesting story, but at times it did get quite long. I found my mind drifting at different parts that I didn’t really find relevent. At one point where it felt like the story could end soon I picked up my MP3 and was shocked to see that there were six hours still to go.

When listening to the book there were some points that weren’t exactly clear what part of time it was, even though Sam’s story was in first person and Claire’s was in third, there weren’t really any obvious chapter changes, I don’t know whether this was the narrator or the story but on the parts where I was only half listening it would get a little confusing.

Overall rating

I would definitely recommend this for crime lovers. There was a little bit of lust and romance in it too which kept me happy.

Sam – Maika Monroe

hqdefault

Known for her scream queen roles, I think that Maika is a great choice to play Sam, shed give her character that naive spark that Sam has, but also put so much independence into the role and create the very strong character that I think Sam is.
